Kite flying is a world popular sport that has evolved over the decades
resulting in changes into modernized patterns and materials. Nowadays, the
features of a kite has a beautifully bigger structure and adopted modern
technology in its production, which brings in a variety of forms and structures
and methods of flying; as such, it creates a spectacle to the audience. It is
believed that the invention of kite dates back to 400 B.C. with the purpose of
pleasure and certain usefulness. From an academic chronicle, it was found that a
Chinese engineer named Kungshu Pan (Lu Ban) built a wooden bird, which could fly
in the sky for 3 days; therefore, it was assumed as the world’s first kite.

In Thailand, kite flying has been long popular since the Sukhothai and Ayutthaya
periods among the royalty as well as ordinary people. However, the Royal
Household’s law forbade that no one could fly a kite over the palace; otherwise,
punishment by law would be enforced. The Chula-Pakpao kites were created in the
Ayutthaya period and the competition had been held until the Rattanakhosin
period. King Rama ll was fond of Chula kite fighting with the Pakpao kite of his
brother. Westerners compared the Chula kite as a male and Pakpao kite as a
female, which was similar to the Thai social value in that period that males
dominated female. Kite flying was also the most popular sport in king Rama IV,
kite flying at Sanam Luang inside the Dusit Palace, and had a kite flying
competition held at Dusit Palace in 1856, where he presided over himself. In the
reign of King Rama VI, kite flying was restored as a sport and Phraya Phirom
PhaKdi organized a kite flying competition at Sanam Luang. After World was II,
the Siam Sport Club held an annual kite flying competition.


The tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) first held the Thailand International
Kite Festival in 1989 and has continuously held the event in many arenas ; such
as, the seashore of Pattaya, Chon Buri, the grounds of the Bang sai Royal Folk
Arts and Crafts Centre, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Sanam Luang, Bangkok, Mueang
Thong Thani Sports Complex, Nonthaburi, The 16th Infantry, Suriyothai camp,
Prachup Khiri Khan, and Naresuan Camp, Phetchaburi, until now. In 2010 TAT in
cooperation with Phetchaburi province, Naresuan Camp, Phra Ram VI Camp, the Thai
Sports World under Royal Patronage, Bangkok Metropolitan Adminitration, Thailand
kite fliers Association, and Sanook Sky Kite Flyer Club will hold the 11th
Thailand International Kite Festival during 13-14 March 2010, at Amphoe Cha–am,
Phetchaburi. This province has been considered to be a well-equipped potential
tourist destination and capable of organizing sports for tourism activities
which draw more visitors into the area.

History of Diving in Thailand

Diving in Thailand is a recently new phenomenon beginning with the
American Navy SEALs during the Vietnam War. Thailand’s first ever
diving store was opened in Pattaya in just 1977 and shortly after
that very year, the popularity of diving for both Thais and foreigners
in Thailand exploded.

After Pattaya, the next destination to see divers arriving by the busload was Phuket and they were soon heading out to dive in the gorgeous Similan Islands and the rest of the stunning Andaman Sea. In the fact, the
Similan islands have been ranked as one of the top ten diving sites in the entire world. Today, diving is popular all over the Andaman Sea, including the virtually unseen Tarutao and Surin islands.

Over on the other side of Thailand
in the Gulf of China, Ko Tao Turtle Island) has recently emerged as the biggest diving destination in Thailand with over 20 major centers located on the island.

ในส่วนของประเทศไทย มีช่วงที่แม่น้ำโขงไหลเลาะตะเข็บชายแดนอยู่เป็นระยะทางยาว 850 กิโลเมตร โดยแบ่งเป็นสองช่วง คือในพื้นที่ จ.เชียงราย เหนือสุดในสยาม และลงมาที่ 6 จังหวัดของภาคอีสาน ได้แก่ เลย หนองคาย นครพนม มุกดาหาร อำนาจเจริญ และอุบลราชธานีและ ณ จุดสุดท้ายของสายน้ำโขงในแดนสยาม ที่จังหวัดอุบลราชธานีนั้น แม่น้ำโขงสีปูนได้ไหลบรรจบกับแม่น้ำมูลสีครามที่ กลายเป็นแม่น้ำสองสี ที่ อ."โขงเจียม" ก่อนจะไหลเลี้ยวเข้าสู่ประเทศลาวที่บ้านเวินบึกต่อไปโขงเจียม...

โขงเจียม อำเภอเล็กๆของ จ.อุบลราชธานี ที่ตั้งอยู่ด้านตะวันออกสุดของประเทศ ทิวทัศน์ของแม่น้ำโขง ณ ที่แห่งนี้ขึ้นชื่อว่างดงามที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งของไทย และเป็นจุดท่องเที่ยวเพื่อการพักผ่อนและเพิ่มพูนประสบการณ์ที่คุ้มค่าของภาคอีสานและ อ.โขงเจียมเองก็เป็นพื้นที่ที่มีของดีในตัวเองมากมาย

แหล่งท่องเที่ยวในโขงเจียมมีมากมาย แต่แหล่งสำคัญที่มีความงดงาม เพราะพร้อมด้วยธรรมชาติของสายน้ำบริเวณรอบแม่น้ำโขง จะมี เกาะ แก่ง ซึ่งความสวยของมันจะแล้วแต่ช่วงฤดูกาลด้วย ในช่วงฤดูร้อน น้ำจะน้อย นักท่องเที่ยวสามารถเห็นทิวทัศน์ 2 ข้างทางเป็นเกาะแก่งสวยงามยิ่งนัก พอฤดูฝน 2 ฝั่งน่านน้ำก็จะเต็มไปด้วยความเขียวชอุ่ม ทั้งหน้าแล้งและหน้าฝนนี่ก็จะสามรถล่องเรือชมบรรยากาศริมฝั่งโขงได้ตามฤดูกาล

โขงเจียม มีแหล่งท่องเที่ยวที่หลากหลาย มีทั้งวัฒนธรรม ธรรมชาติ และศาสนา อย่างแหล่งท่องเที่ยวเชิงธรรมชาติ อาทิ อุทยานแห่งชาติผาแต้ม ผาชะนะได ที่มีลักษณะเป็นเพิงผาที่ตั้งอยู่ปลายตะวันออกสุดของประเทศไทย เป็นจุดที่เห็นตะวันขึ้นก่อนใครในสยาม และช่วงปลายฝนต้นหนาวจะมีทะเลหมอกยามเช้าให้สัมผัส สวยและบรรยากาศดีมาก จึงเป็นเหมือนมนต์เสน่ห์จนไม่อยากกลับเลยทีเดียว

นอกจากนี้นักท่องเที่ยวยังสามารถไปกางเต็นท์นอนชมดาวยามค่ำคืนที่ผาแต้ม
หรือดูศิลปะภาพเขียนสีโบราณที่ผาแต้ม
ในอุทยานแห่งชาติผาแต้มเองยังมีความงดงามที่เป็นเอกอุอีกมากมาย อาทิ
น้ำตกสร้อยสวรรค์ เป็นน้ำตกที่สวยงาม มีน้ำไหลตลอดทั้งปี
มีแอ่งน้ำที่สามารถลงเล่นน้ำได้ บริเวณน้ำตกเต็มไปด้วยดอกไม้ป่านานาพรรณ
เกิดจากลำธาร 2 สาย คือ ห้วยสร้อยและห้วยสะหนม ไหลจากหน้าผาคนละด้านมาบรรจบกัน

ห้วยสะหนม ไหลจากหน้าผาตัดชัน 90 องศา สุงราว 50-60 เมตร ส่วนห้วยสร้อยไหลจากทางทิศใต้ แล้วเทลาดลงมาตามช่องเขาที่เป็นหน้าผากว้างราว 30 เมตร มี 2 ชั้น โดยน้ำจะไหลมารวมกันตอนปลาย (มองดูคล้ายสายสร้อย) ก่อนที่จะไหลลงสู่แม่น้ำโขง

อีกอันที่กลายเป็น UNSEEN IN THAILAND ไปแล้วอย่าง น้ำตกแสงจันทร์ หรือ น้ำตกลงรู เป็นน้ำตกขนาดเล็ก เกิดจากลำห้วยท่าล้ง ไหลไปตามพลาญหินทราย และไหลลอดผ่านหน้าผาที่มีลักษณะเป็นรูขนาดใหญ่ อันเกิดจากแรงกัดเซาะของสายน้ำ บ้างก็เรียกว่า "น้ำตกลงรู" สายน้ำที่ไหลรอดรูตกลงเป็นละอองขาวนวล มองดูคล้ายแสงจันทร์สาดส่องลงมาสู่พื้นโลก

และถ้าคุณอยากจะชอปปิ้งก็สามารถเดินทางไปที่ช่องเม็ก
ชายแดนที่เป็นอาณาเขตติดต่อระหว่างไทยกับลาว ซึ่งเป็นด่านตรวจคนเข้าเมือง ที่มีร้านขายสินค้านำเข้า และหัตถกรรมจากชาวบ้านอีกด้วยเลียบริมโขงจากเหนือจรดใต้ความงามอันอาจจะเรียกได้ว่าครบทุกองค์รวมของธรรมชาติทั้งขุนเขาและสายน้ำ จึงไม่ใช่เรื่องแปลก หากที่นี่จะมีจำนวนผู้มาเยือนเพิ่มขึ้นทุกปีๆ

โขงเจียม เริ่มเป็นเมืองท่องเที่ยวเต็มตัวเมื่อ ประมาณปี พ.ศ. 2535
เริ่มมีนักท่องเที่ยวเดินทางเข้ามาท่องเที่ยวภายในโขงเจียม ซึ่งจากวันนั้นจนถึงวันนี้ จำนวนนักท่องเที่ยวเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างต่อเนื่อง อย่างเช่นยอดนักท่องเที่ยวที่เดินทางเข้ามาในปี 2550 เปรียบเทียบกับปี 2551 ในปี
2551 มีจำนวนเพิ่มมากขึ้นประมาณ 70-80% และหากถามว่าโขงเจียมสวยสุดในฤดูใด ก็คงต้องเป็นช่วงปลายฝนต้นหนาว
โดยเฉพาะในช่วงเดือนธันวาคมนักท่องเที่ยวจะได้ร่วมพิธีต่อแสงตะวันบนลานผาแต้ม และชมงานไหลโคมล่องโขงที่โขงเจียม ในค่ำคืนวันส่งท้ายปีเก่าและพร้อมรับแสงแรกของตะวันก่อนใครในสยามที่โขงเจียม
ในช่วงเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ ดอกช้างน้าวหรือดอกเหมยในอุทยานแห่งชาติผาแต้มจะบานรับเทศกาลตรุษจีน

สำหรับคนที่สนใจการท่องเที่ยวในโขงเจียม แนะนำว่าควรเที่ยวบนเส้นทางท่องเที่ยวเลียบแม่น้ำโขง จากใต้-เหนือโดยทางด้านใต้ สามารถแวะเยือน ชมรมอนุรักษ์ม้าพันธุ์พื้นเมืองฯ ที่บ้านหนองชาด ชมเขื่อนปากมูล แวะศึกษาศิลาจารึกพระเจ้าจิตรเสนรอยอารยะธรรมขอมโบราณยุคเจนละ(เจินละ)บริเวณข้างตัวเขื่อน
หรือชมความยิ่งใหญ่ของอุทยานแห่งชาติแก่งตะนะ แก่งหินกว้างกลางลำน้ำมูลชมดอนตะนะ
ศึกษาธรรมชาติริมแม่น้ำมูล เยือนเขื่อนสิรินธรแหล่งผลิตไฟฟ้าพลังน้ำ ชมทัศนียภาพทะเลสาบเหนือเขื่อน ส่วนเส้นทางท่องเที่ยวเลียบแม่น้ำโขง
ทางด้านเหนือของเมืองโขงเจียม นักท่องเที่ยวสามารถเที่ยว ชมเสาเฉลียงคู่ อันเป็นปรากฏการณ์ทางธรรมชาติที่เกิดจากการกัดเซาะของน้ำ สายลม แสงแดด ต่อเนื่องเป็นเวลาหลายร้อยล้านปี
มีลักษณะเป็นแท่งหินตั้งขึ้นมีส่วนบนเป็นแผ่นหินวางไม่ติดกันมองดูคล้ายดอกเห็ด ตั้งคู่กันบนเนินหินทรายตรงเนินเสาเฉลียงคู่นี้ยังเป็นจุดที่ชมพระอาทิตย์ตกดินที่สวยที่สุดของดงนาทามอีกด้วย

ส่วนใครเป็นนักผจญภัยก็ต้องมาที่ ป่าดงนาทาม แหล่งเดินป่า แค้มป์ปิ้ง ที่ได้รับความนิยมสูงสุดในช่วงปลายฝนต้นหนาวของอีสานใต้ มีลักษณะเป็นผืนป่าตะวันออกสุดของประเทศไทยที่มีความอุดมสมบูรณ์มากที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งในปัจจุบัน ติดกับแม่น้ำโขง มีหน้าผาสูงชัน ในช่วงปลายฝนต้นหนาว จะมีดอกไม้ป่าบานสะพรั่งเต็มลานหิน เช่น หยาดน้ำค้าง แดงอุบล เอ็นอ้า ดุสิตา สรัสจันทร สร้อยสุวรรณา มณีเทวา ทิพเกสร ฯลฯ และพืชกินแมลงจำพวกหม้อข้าวหม้อแกงลิง ขึ้นอยู่ทั่วไปตามชายป่าและลำห้วย

"โขงเจียมเป็นจุดไหลผ่านของแม่น้ำโขงที่มีความงดงามตามธรรมชาติ และสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวก็มีมากมาย ดังนั้นหากคิดจะก้าวเดินท่องเที่ยวตามตะวัน ก็อย่าลืมก้าวตามแสงแรกของตะวันมายังผืนดินริมโขง ที่โขงเจียม จ.อุบลราชธานีแห่งนี้"

แม้นในช่วงนี้ประเทศไทยของเราจะมีปัญหาต่างๆมากมายที่กระทบต่อภาพลักษณ์การท่องเที่ยว แต่หากเราคนไทยมีความรักและเข้าใจที่ดีต่อกันเหมือนก่อนแล้ว เราคงจะจดจำกันได้ว่า ชาติไทยของเราต้องผ่านอะไรมามากบรรพบุรุษของเราต้องสู้เพื่อปกป้องผืนแผ่นดิน...ให้เราทุกคนมีวันนี้...วันที่เราทุกคนคือคนไทย รักกันไว้ดีกว่าครับเพราะที่นี่คือบ้านของเราแผ่นดินของเราอย่าทำลายเพียงเพื่อผลประโยชน์ของใครคนใดคนหนึ่งเลย...เอ๋..มาเรื่องเครียดๆได้ไงหว่า...เอ้า...เอาเป็นว่าการท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติไม่มา เราคนไทยก็เที่ยวในเมืองไทยดีกว่า เพื่อจะได้ทำให้เศรษฐกิจของเราดีขึ้นเร็วๆ...ขอให้เที่ยวไทยกันให้สนุกนะ เพราะเมืองไทยมีดีกว่าที่คิด

ประเพณี"ฮีตสิบสอง"

ปฏิทินสากลเดินทางเข้าสู่ปีใหม่อีกครั้ง ถือเป็นการเปลี่ยนผ่านของรอบปี จากปีชวด-หนู 2551 เข้าสู่ปีฉลู- วัว 2552 ขณะที่การเปลี่ยนผ่านในวงรอบเล็กลงมาอย่างการเปลี่ยนผ่านของแต่ละเดือนนั้น หลายประเทศอาจไม่ให้ความสนใจ แต่สำหรับชาวอีสานโบราณแล้วนี่คือส่วนหนึ่งของวิถีชีวิตวัฒนธรรม ซึ่งชาวอีสานได้บ่มเพาะภูมิปัญญา ก่อกำเนิดเป็นประเพณีสำคัญๆขึ้นมาและได้ร่วมสืบทอดกันมาอย่างยาวนาน โดยพวกเขาเรียกขานประเพณีเหล่านี้รวมกันว่า "ฮีตสิบสอง"

ฮีตสิบสอง หมายถึง จารีตประเพณีประจำสิบสองเดือน ซึ่งถือเป็นโอกาสดีที่ชาวบ้านจะได้มาร่วมชุมนุมและทำบุญในทุกๆ เดือนของรอบปี และถือเป็นจรรยาของสังคม ผู้ที่ฝ่าฝืนก็จะเป็นผู้ที่ ผิดฮีต หรือ ผิดจารีต นั่นเอง(หลายครั้ง ฮีตสิบสอง มักจะกล่าวควบคู่" คลองสิบสี่ "(คองสิบสี่) ที่เป็นดังแบบแผนหรือแนวทางดำเนินชีวิต(คลอง=ครรลอง)แต่จะมุ่งเน้นไปทางศีลธรรมมากกว่าด้านอาชีพ)

สำหรับประเพณีหลักๆ 12 เดือนตามฮีตสิบสองของชาวอีสานโบราณนั้นประกอบด้วย

เดือนเจียง (เดือนอ้าย) มีการประกอบพิธีบุญเข้ากรรม ซึ่งเป็นเดือนที่พระสงฆ์เข้ากรรม (ปริวาสกรรม) เพื่อให้พระสงฆ์ผู้กระทำผิด ได้สารภาพต่อหน้าคณะสงฆ์ เป็นการฝึกจิตสำนึกถึงความบกพร่องของตน และมุ่งประพฤติตนให้ถูกต้องตามพระธรรมวินัยต่อไป ชาวบ้านก็จะมีการทำบุญเลี้ยงผีต่างๆ

เดือนยี่ ในฤดูหลังการเก็บเกี่ยว ชาวบ้านจะทำบุญคูณข้าวหรือบุญคูณลาน โดยนิมนต์พระสวดมนต์เย็น เพื่อเป็นมงคลแก่ข้าวเปลือก รุ่งเช้าเมื่อพระฉันเช้าแล้วจะมีการทำพิธีสู่ขวัญข้าว นอกจากนี้ชาวบ้านจะเตรียมเก็บสะสมฟืนไว้หุงต้มที่บ้าน

เดือนสาม ในมื้อเพ็ง หรือวันเพ็ญเดือนสาม จะมีการทำบุญข้าวจี่และบุญมาฆบูชา การทำบุญข้าวจี่จะเริ่มตอนเช้า โดยใช้ข้าวเหนียวปั้นใส่น้ำอ้อยนำไปจี่บนไฟอ่อนแล้วชุบด้วยไข่ เมื่อสุกแล้วนำไป ถวายพระ

เดือนสี่ ทำบุญพระเวสฟังเทศน์มหาชาติ ในงานบุญนี้มักจะมีผู้นำของมาถวายพระ ซึ่งเรียกว่า "กัณฑ์หลอน" หรือถ้าจะถวายเจาะจงเฉพาะพระนักเทศน์ที่ตนนิมนต์มาก็จะเรียกว่า "กัณฑ์จอบ" เพราะต้องแอบซุ่มดูให้แน่เสียก่อนว่าใช่พระรูปที่จะถวายเฉพาะเจาะจงหรือไม่

เดือนห้า ประเพณีตรุษสงกรานต์ หรือบุญสรงน้ำ หรือบุญเดือนห้า ซึ่งมีขึ้นในวันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือนห้า และถือเป็นเดือนสำคัญ เพราะเป็นเดือนเริ่มต้นปีใหม่ไทย การสรงน้ำจะมีทั้งการรดน้ำพระพุทธรูป พระสงฆ์ และผู้หลักผู้ใหญ่ ด้วยน้ำอบน้ำหอมเพื่อขอขมาและขอพร ตลอดจนมีการทำบุญถวายทาน

เดือนหก ประเพณีบุญบั้งไฟและบุญวันวิสาขบูชา การทำบุญบั้งไฟเป็นการขอฝน พร้อมกับงานบวชนาค ซึ่งการทำบุญเดือนหกถือเป็นงานสำคัญก่อนการทำนา หมู่บ้านใกล้เคียงจะนำเอาบั้งไฟมาจุดประชันขันแข่งกัน หมู่บ้านที่รับเป็นเจ้าภาพจะจัดอาหาร เหล้ายามาเลี้ยง เมื่อถึงเวลาก็จะตั้งขบวนแห่บั้งไฟและรำเซิ้งออกไป ณ ลานที่จุดบั้งไฟ ด้วยความสนุกสนาน คำเซิ้งและการแสดงประกอบจะออกไปในเรื่องเพศ แต่จะไม่คิดเป็นเรื่องหยาบคายแต่อย่างใด ซึ่งประเพณีบุญบั้งไฟจะจัดขึ้นอย่างยิ่งใหญ่ทุกปีที่จังหวัดยโสธร ส่วนการทำบุญวิสาขบูชานั้น จะมีการทำบุญเลี้ยงพระ ฟังเทศน์ ช่วงเย็นมีการเวียนเทียนเช่นเดียวกับภาคอื่นๆ

เดือนเจ็ด ทำบุญซำฮะ (ล้าง) หรือบุญบูชาบรรพบุรุษ มีการเซ่นสรวงหลักเมือง หลักบ้าน ปู่ตา ผีตาแฮก ผีเมือง เป็นการทำบุญเพื่อระลึกถึงผู้มีพระคุณ

เดือนแปด ทำบุญเข้าพรรษาซึ่งเป็นประเพณีทางพุทธศาสนาโดยตรง ลักษณะการจัดงานจึงคล้ายกับทางภาคอื่นๆ ของประเทศไทย เช่น มีการทำบุญตักบาตร ถวายภัตตาหารแด่พระภิกษุสงฆ์สามเณร มีการฟังธรรมเทศนาตอนบ่าย ชาวบ้านหล่อเทียนใหญ่ถวายเป็นพุทธบูชาและเก็บไว้ตลอดพรรษา การนำไปถวายวัดจะมีขบวนแห่ฟ้อนรำเพื่อให้เกิดความคึกคักสนุกสนาน ประเพณีแห่เทียนพรรษาที่ยิ่งใหญ่ที่สุดต้องเป็นที่จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี

เดือนเก้า ประเพณีทำบุญข้าวประดับดิน เป็นการทำบุญเพื่ออุทิศแก่ญาติผู้ล่วงลับ เพื่อบูชาผีบรรพบุรุษและผีไร้ญาติ โดยชาวบ้านจะทำการจัดอาหาร ประกอบด้วยข้าว ของหวาน หมากพลู บุหรี่ ห่อด้วยใบตองกล้วย ร้อยเป็นพวง เตรียมไว้ถวายพระช่วงเลี้ยงเพล บางพื้นที่อาจจะนำห่อข้าวน้อย เหล้า บุหรี่ แล้วนำไปวางหรือแขวนไว้ตามต้นไม้ และกล่าว เชิญวิญญาณของบรรพบุรุษและญาติมิตรที่ล่วงลับไปมารับส่วนกุศลในครั้งนี้ ต่อมาใช้วิธีการกรวดน้ำหลังการถวายภัตตาหารพระสงฆ์แทน การทำบุญข้าวประดับดิน นิยมทำกันในวันแรม 14 ค่ำ เดือนเก้า หรือที่เรียกว่า บุญเดือนเก้า

เดือนสิบ ประเพณีทำบุญข้าวสากหรือข้าวสลาก (สลากภัตร) ตรงกับวันเพ็ญ เดือนสิบ ผู้ถวายจะเขียนชื่อของตนลงในภาชนะที่ใส่ของทาน และเขียนชื่อลงในบาตร ภิกษุสามเณรรูปใดจับได้ สลากของใคร ผู้นั้นจะเข้าไปถวายของ เมื่อพระฉันเสร็จแล้วจะมีการฟังเทศน์ เพื่อเป็นการอุทิศให้แก่ผู้ตาย

เดือนสิบเอ็ด ประเพณีทำบุญออกพรรษา ในวันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือนสิบเอ็ด พระสงฆ์จะแสดงอาบัติ ทำการปวารณา คือ การเปิดโอกาสให้ว่ากล่าวตักเตือนกันได้ ต่อมาเจ้าอาวาสหรือพระผู้ใหญ่จะให้โอวาทเตือนพระสงฆ์ ให้ปฏิบัติตนอย่างผู้ทรงศีล พอตกกลางคืนจะมีการจุดประทีป โคมไฟ นำไปแขวนไว้ตามต้นไม้ในวัดหรือตามริมรั้ววัด จึงเรียกอีกอย่างหนึ่งว่า บุญจุดประทีป ในจังหวัดนครพนมจะมีประเพณีการไหลเหลือไฟ ซึ่งตกแต่งด้วยตะเกียงน้ำมันก๊าดเป็นรูปต่างๆ สวยงามกลางลำน้ำโขง และมีหลายจังหวัดที่จัดงานแห่ปราสาทผึ้งขึ้น แต่ที่นับว่าเป็นต้นตำรับและมีความยิ่งใหญ่กว่าที่ใด ก็คือ จังหวัดสกลนคร

เดือนสิบสอง เป็นเดือนส่งท้ายปีเก่า ซึ่งจะมีการทำบุญกองกฐิน โดยเริ่มตั้งแต่วันแรม หนึ่งค่ำ เดือนสิบเอ็ดถึงกลางเดือนสิบสอง แต่ชาวอีสานในสมัยก่อนนิยมเริ่มทำบุญทอดกฐินกันตั้งแต่ข้างขึ้นเดือนสิบสอง จึงมักจะเรียกบุญกฐินว่า บุญเดือนสิบสอง สำหรับประชาชนที่อาศัยอยู่ตามริมฝั่งแม่น้ำใหญ่ เช่น แม่น้ำโขง แม่น้ำชี และแม่น้ำมูล จะมีการจัดส่วงเฮือ (แข่งเรือ) เพื่อระลึกถึง อุสุพญานาค บางแห่งจะมีการทำบุญดอกฝ้ายเพื่อใช้ทอเป็นผ้าห่มกันหนาวถวายพระเณร มีการจุดพลุตะไล และบางแห่งจะมีการทำบุญโกนจุกลูกสาว ซึ่งนิยมทำกันมากในสมัยก่อน

ประเพณีทั้งสิบสองเดือน ชาวอีสานโบราณถือว่าเป็นหน้าที่ของทุกคนที่จะต้องร่วมมือกันอย่างจริงจัง ตั้งแต่เดือนอ้ายจนถึงเดือนสิบสอง ใครที่ไม่ไปช่วยงานบุญก็จะถูกสังคมตั้งข้อรังเกียจ และไม่คบค้าสมาคมด้วย การร่วมประชุมทำบุญเป็นประจำทำให้ชาวอีสานมีความสนิทสนมรักใคร่และสามัคคีกัน ทั้งภายในหมู่บ้านของตนและในหมู่บ้านใกล้เคียง

สำหรับวันนี้ด้วยสภาพสังคมที่เปลี่ยนไป ส่งผลให้ประเพณี 12 เดือนหลายอย่างของชาวอีสานเปลี่ยนแปลงไปตามยุคสมัย ในขณะที่บางประเพณีก็เริ่มสูญหาย ซึ่งหากประเพณีเหล่านี้ไม่มีการสืบต่อหรือไม่มีการอนุรักษ์ไว้ บางทีในอนาคตเด็กรุ่นใหม่อาจไม่รู้จักประเพณีอันดีงามอย่าง"ฮีตสิบสอง"ก็เป็นได้
